Wellness

Retreats, a Balint group, a YMCA membership, and time set aside to be together outside the clinic.

Residency is demanding. We want our residents to have the support and the time they need to take care of themselves too. We make room for time together outside the clinic: retreats, group activities, and chances to unwind.

Retreats

The annual residency retreat brings residents and faculty together for shared learning, community building, and time away from the clinical environment. Each class also has its own retreats during residency, for reflection, team building and the relationships within the class.

Resident activities

Residents spend time together: board game nights, hikes, trips to the coast, wine tasting, the farmers market, Music on the Half Shell in the summer, and waterfall hikes.

Didactics and reflection

Didactics include dedicated time for wellness activities. PGY-1 residents join a Balint group, a structured place to reflect on the challenges and rewards of caring for patients and on the physician-patient relationship. We celebrate each other with holiday parties, birthdays and other gatherings through the year.

Physical health

Residents have a YMCA membership, and there is workout equipment at the hospital and the clinic.
